The ITF/OS Asian Regional Coaches Conference was successfully conducted by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Guangzhou, China, from October 29 to November 1.
The workshop, hosted by the China Tennis Association, attracted about 175 coaches from all over Asia. Lectures and Court presentations on different topics were delivered by the tutors from different parts of the world. Key speakers were Simon Jones from Britain, Michael Robertson from Australia, Antoni Girod from France and Ashley Hobson from the US.
The ITF Development officer Miguel Crespo and the Asia Development Officer Suresh Menon coordinated the workshop with the tutors.
“The workshop gave us knowledge on technical, tactical, physical, mental and high performance training. Mini tennis topics were also discussed. Special emphasis was laid on handing the small kids and making them enjoy tennis. The importance of improving technical aspects at the under-14 and under-16 level was stressed’’, said Lalit Tandon, one of the Indian coaches who attended the workshop.
The ITF Regional Coaches Conferences by BNP Paribas form a very important element of the ITF’s Coach Education Programme.
These events are organised in conjunction with the Regional Associations and are often supported by Olympic Solidarity. They are held every two years in Asia, while in Europe the event is held on an annual basis.
The Conferences feature top-level international speakers and are designed to provide a forum on coach education for the top coaches from each region. The Conferences typically deal with a variety of topics from high level player development to strategies for increasing tennis participation.
