Fifth seeded Konstantin Kravchuk of Russia became the new champion as he dethroned title holder and local star seventh seeded Denis Istomin to lift the singles title at the ninth edition of the $125000 Tashkent ATP Challenger Which concluded at the Olympic Tennis School in Tashkent today.
In a 1 hour and 29 minutes well contested final the 31 year old Fifth seeded Russian Konstantin stopped the Local star Denis Istomin bid for his third title here and a coveted double crown winning 7-5, 6-4.
It was the second win for Kravchuk over Istomin in two months , the win here will propel Kravchuk into the top 75 in the world , while a final here ensures that Denis will move nearer to the top 100 bracket Kravchuk a regular at Tashkent started positively serving well and pinning Istomin with sharp and deep rallies from the baseline Istomin looked shaky committed errors.
Kravchuk broke Istomin in the 11-th game of the first set and the 10-th game In the second set to ensure a straight set win.
The three back to back close matches yesterday seemed to have taken a toll on Istomin as he looked uncomfortable with a tight back.
Kravchuk who won his first title here has had a good year being a Finalist at Astana , South Korea( Busan), Taiwan , quarterfinalist at Israel Open this year.
” I’m thrilled , today and the effort and hard work I have put had paid off , I always wanted to win here . When I came to Tashkent me and my coach decided to go match by match , ” said Kravchuk a resident of Moscow
Kravchuk got 125 ATP points and $16000 for his efforts while the runner-up Istomin received $10600 and 75 ATP points
The prizes were given away at the hands of , The deputy of khokim of Tashkent city Turdikulov Shuhrat Hudoykulovich and the First Vice Minister of Sport and cultural affairs Murodjon Aliev.
