ITF/ATF West&Central Asia 14U Regional Training Camp 2018

From the series of the ITF/ATF development programmes in West & Central Asia for 2018, the ITF/ATF WCA Regional Training Camp for 14U players took place 15th-22nd July in Tehran, Iran.

The ITF High-Performance Coach and Development Officer for West & Central Asia, Amir Borghei, conducted the training camp along with the coaching team consisting of Farbod Fahmi (IRI), Andrei Dovmatov (TKM), tennis fitness coach Farid Yazdanyar (IRI) as well as the other assistants. This new development project for the region was hosted at Esteghlal National Training Centre in Tehran and eighteen players from Syria, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, and Iran participated in the eight-day programme.

The camp focused on training, physical conditioning, and competition sessions. The players underwent various sessions to improve their technical ability and a variety of competitive situations like singles/doubles matches, short games, etc were part of the camp. At the end of the camp, the players reviewed their practice skills and drills under the coaches' supervision.

The closing ceremony was attended by the IRITF vice-president Dr. Mehrafza Manouchehri as well as the head of national teams, Farshad Sefati, and all players and the coaching team received their certificates of attendance.

Amir Borghei, commented: "This is a new policy of the ITF and ATF to spread the Development and the High-Performance Training Camps around Asia and organise them in the regions. This is the first year for us and I think we had a good start with the camps in SriLanka done by my colleague Jonathan Stubs and this recent camp I did in Iran. We received very positive feedback from the participating national federations and especially from the players who benefited a lot from the technical content as well as the professional learning atmosphere we managed to create during the program. I would like to thank my colleagues at both ITF and ATF for their support and input to this project and looking forward to developing this new initiative for next year."
