Champions Crowned at West & Central Asia Qualifying Event for Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault.
The West & Central Asia qualifying event for the inaugural Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault concluded on August 9 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, marking a significant milestone for young tennis talents in the region. Sixteen boys and sixteen girls from across West and Central Asia competed fiercely for the chance to secure their spots in the upcoming Roland-Garros Junior Series Qualifying event, set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from October 16-20.
In boys category Akhmadjon Toshmukhamedov (UZB) & Arseniy Trebukhin (KAZ) and in girls category Sofia Issakova (KAZ) & Yasaman Yazdani (IRN) have earned the opportunity to compete in the Roland-Garros Junior Series Qualifying event in Tokyo this October.
In the boys’ category, Uzbekistan’s Akhmadjon Toshmukhamedov emerged as the champion after a series of hard-fought matches. Toshmukhamedov’s path to victory included a thrilling semifinal where he overcame fellow Uzbek player Danila Kvasov, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. In the final, Toshmukhamedov faced Kazakhstan’s Arseniy Trebukhin, who had earlier battled past Jordan’s Amir Jaber with a 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-4 win in his semifinal. The final was a nail-biting contest, with Toshmukhamedov ultimately prevailing in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-1, to claim the title.
In the girls’ category, Kazakhstan’s Sofia Issakova showcased her dominance throughout the tournament. Issakova cruised through the semifinals, defeating her compatriot Satima Toregen 6-1, 6-1. She then faced Iran’s Yasaman Yazdani in the final. Yazdani had advanced after a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory over Albina Kakenova of Kazakhstan in the semifinals. However, Issakova proved too strong in the final, claiming a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The event in Tokyo is not just another tournament; it offers the winners a direct entry into the 2025 Roland-Garros Junior Championships, a dream come true for any aspiring tennis player.
The Roland-Garros Junior Series is the result of a collaboration between the French Tennis Federation (FFT) and the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). The initiative aims to provide greater opportunities for Asian players. This partnership underscores a commitment to nurturing the next generation of tennis talent in region, offering them a platform to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
The West & Central Asia qualifying event was just the beginning. Another qualifying event is currently underway in China from August 12-17, where more young talents will vie for their chance to compete in Tokyo. The top two finalists from each of these events will advance to the Tokyo series, bringing them one step closer to the hallowed courts of Roland-Garros.
