US OPEN: Zheng falls to Sabalenka again; Bopanna also ousted

GSPDP Asian 14&U Junior Championships Concludes with Thrilling Finals

India’s Hruthik Katakam emerged as the boys’ singles champion while Korea’s Siyoen Sim took home the girls’ singles title as the second edition of the GSPDP Asian 14&U Junior Championships concluded on 13 September in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with intense finals.

The event witnessed 24 talented boys and girls from around the Asian region, including Cambodia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, and Vietnam.

In the boys’ singles final, sixth seed Hruthik Katakam upset Korea’s second seed Dongjae Kim 6-3, 7-5. Dongjae Kim then teamed up with Junseo Jang to take the boys’ doubles winners’ trophy. The Korean duo defeated the Thai duo of Tri Srisen and Dharma Pantaratorn 7-5 6-2.

 

In the girls singles final, Korean second seeded Siyoen Sim got the better of seventh seed from Thailand Paweenon Nualsri 7-6(7) 6-0.

Paweenon Nualsri, however, did not leave empty-handed, as she teamed up with none other than the singles champion Siyoen Sim to emerge as the girls doubles champions.

The Thai-Korean duo overpowered the Kazakh pair of Gluden Azamatkyzy and Nailya Baimakhanova 6-0 6-2.

The winners of this championship will have a chance to be part of the ITF U14 team and also be part of the ITF U16 team in 2025. The Elite Trophy in 2025 will also feature players selected from this championship. These opportunities will provide the winners with invaluable experience and exposure to the global tennis circuit, helping them to develop their skills and reach their full potential.
