Indonesia and Thailand Emerge Victorious at 12&U Team Competition in Singapore

The ATF 12&U Team Competition Regional Qualifying (Southeast Asia) concluded in Singapore, showcasing five days of riveting tennis action from June 17-21. Hosted by the Singapore Tennis Association and supported by KTF, the event saw 11 nations from Southeast Asia competing fiercely for championship titles and coveted spots in the 12&U Finals set to be held in Kazakhstan later this year.

The competition adopted a round-robin format in its initial phase, allowing each team multiple matches to prove their mettle. This intense format ensured that only the strongest teams would advance to the knockout stages, setting the stage for a thrilling series of semi-finals and finals.

In the boys’ semi-finals, Thailand displayed their dominance by defeating Vietnam with an assertive 2-0 victory. Indonesia, demonstrating their prowess, overcame the host nation, Singapore, also with a 2-0 score line. These victories set up an eagerly anticipated finals clash between Thailand and Indonesia.

The girls’ semi-finals mirrored the boys’ intensity. Thailand once again showcased their strength, securing a solid 2-0 win against Vietnam. Indonesia faced a tougher battle against the Philippines but emerged triumphant with a hard-fought 2-1 victory, setting the stage for an exciting finals matchup against Thailand.

The boys’ finals did not disappoint as Indonesia delivered a spectacular performance, defeating Thailand 2-0 to clinch the championship title. The battle for third place was a nail-biting contest, with Vietnam edging out Singapore 2-1, securing their spot in the 12&U Finals alongside champions Indonesia and runners-up Thailand.
On the girls’ side, Thailand continued their impressive run, defeating Indonesia 2-0 in the finals to claim the championship. The Philippines showcased their prowess in the third-place playoff, overcoming Vietnam with a decisive 2-0 win. Consequently, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines will advance to the 12&U Finals.

The event concluded with accolades to the champions. Both Indonesia and Thailand emerged as champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. Alongside them, Vietnam and the Philippines also secured their spots in the prestigious 12&U Finals, demonstrating the high caliber of tennis talent in the region.
