Malaysia and Philippines Lock Spots in Junior Billie Jean King Cup Final Qualifying
Host nation Malaysia emerged victorious at the Asia Oceania Pre-Qualifying event for the Junior Billie Jean King Cup (JBJKC), defeating Philippines 2-1 in a thrilling final. Both teams earned coveted spots in the Final Qualifying event to be held later this year.
The week-long tournament, held at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association from March 3-8, saw 14 nations from across Asia and Oceania battling it out on the hard courts.
After three days of intense round-robin play, the top teams advanced to the quarterfinals: Philippines, Maldives, Turkmenistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Sri Lanka.
The Philippines showcased their dominance in the semi-finals, sweeping past Singapore 2-0 while, Malaysia fought hard to overcome Sri Lanka 2-1 in a close encounter.
In the championship match, Malaysia walked away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against a resilient Philippines team. Sri Lanka secured the third place with a convincing 2-0 win over Singapore.
All eyes now turn to the Final Qualifying event, where teams will compete for a chance to play in the Junior Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
